Following lunch, President Dennis Relihan called the meeting to order.

Dennis called the meeting to order, with the first order of business to install the officers for 2008.  They are Dennis Relihan President, Don Chilson Vice President, Connie Relihan Secretary and John Ahaus Treasurer.

The minutes of the October meeting were approved and seconded.

Ken Nelson provided copies of the Treasurer’s Report, noting that the general fund was overdrawn due to the purchase of new name badges.  He pointed out that while the club allocates funds under three headings - general, camping and memorial, we have just one banking account, and the club is solvent.  Dues for 2008 are due and Ken encouraged everyone at the meeting to take care of payment at this meeting.  Dennis, on behalf of everyone in the club thanked Ken for three years of excellent service as Treasurer.  A motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made and seconded.

Dennis introduced two couples who were invited to attend our meeting as potential members: John and Diane Simon of Woodridge and Dan and Martha Meyer of Schaumburg.  By meetings end, both couples had signed up as new members.  We welcome you to our wonderful camping club family and look forwarding to getting to know you better.

Dennis asked everyone in attendance to stand, give their names and say where they are from.

For those celebrating November birthdays and anniversaries, Dennis expressed best wishes from all of us in the club.  On the anniversary side, Al and Sandy Oswald are celebrating 43 years this month and Martin and Margaret Sanders are celebrating 53 years.  A special “best wishes” from all of us as you celebrate your anniversary.

Old Business:

Ken said that he would be pleased to pick up any completed boxes, lose items or monetary donations that members have for the “Shoe Box Gift” project. This organization provides a “Shoe Box Gift” to impoverished children throughout the world.  Last year this organization sent 7 million boxes.

Carol Smith extended thanks to members who brought items for the P.A.S.S. Pregnancy Center.

Jean Chilson brought her computer and was able to show members how the membership book was coming along.  If you plan to be in the book and have not had your picture taken, she asked that pictures be sent to her by e mail in jpeg format.  She also gave out the bio forms to those people who had not given her this information.  If you have any questions about the book, please call or e mail Jean Chilson.

The “blind strings” saga continued...with Laurie Metzer saying that they had theirs fixed professionally, Chuck Borcher fixed his own and said “never again, that it was a terrible task”, the most recent FMCA magazine has an article with a web address that tells you what to do, Don Chilson actually read the Winnebago directions and fixed his blind.  Don feels that he could translate the Winnebago instructions into a step by step Instruction that can be easier to follow.  This could be the best idea of all.

New Business:

Ken Nelson gave out the Winnebago product questionnaire asking members to complete and return them to him.

Al and Sandy Oswald sent around a sign up sheet, as they will make arrangements for the January 6 lunch at Sam Houston Charhouse.  If you were not at the annual meeting, they will be in contact.

Dennis gave out a preliminary schedule of our 2008 campout dates and the State Rally dates along with the club’s State Rally duties.  Our club is in charge of breakfast for the Spring Rally and Dennis asked Bob Gardner if he would be in charge of arrangements for food.

Dennis gave out Wagonmaster kits complete with Wagonmaster duties, a booking form, mailing labels and envelopes.  To complete the campout calendar, Carl and Barb Bergstedt and Phil and Nancy Russell will join Chuck and Jean Hess as Wagonmasters for Door County in September.  Wagonmasters for the April campout are Chuck and Sue Borcher, Bob and Laurie Dukes, Wally and Laurie Metzer.  Wagonmasters for October are Don and Jean Chilson with John and Diana Ahaus.

If you are going to be at GNR …Please note… Each year the Fox Valley Winnies get together for a dinner.  It will be on 24 July and we eat early so we can be back for the evening’s entertainment.  Phil and Nancy Russell will make dinner reservations.  We were all pleased with a restaurant called “The Branding Iron” in Thompson Iowa.  The restaurant is a 15 mile drive from the GNR grounds.  They offer a wide selection of food at good prices.  We will have a sign up sheet at our campouts leading up to GNR but if you are not able to be at a campout prior to GNR and wish to be included, you must call or e mail Phil and Nancy by 8 July.   Thank you Phil and Nancy for taking this chore, as Dennis and I will be camping with our children and grandchildren on the East Coast.

Dennis referred to notes and letters that have been received from members who will not or may not be joining us as members in 2008.  They are, Bob and Carole Shaffer, Wayne and Cathy Whiteside, Ray and Carol Petersen, Otto and Georgie Ryl, Estel and Norma Schermerhorn.

Future Outings:

The 2008 Camping Roster will be sent out in the mail by mid December. Please keep this copy to refer to throughout the year.  For easy reference, please be reminded that the schedule is also available on our website at www.illinoisindians.org – click on Fox Valley Winnies.

Things to Share – Coach Comments

Tom Traharne reminded everyone to keep their gas tank full when parked for an extended period.  This will avoid stale gas and condensation in the gas tank.

If you remember, Chuck Hess had an expensive brake fix earlier this year.  Workhorse subsequently issued a recall addressing his very problem.  They however refused to pay for the work that Chuck had done, as it took place prior to the recall.  Chuck persisted, Workhorse saw the error of their ways, and Chuck got paid!

Carl Bergstedt said to check the seals on your windows.  Their coach is three years old, and when they had it at the Winnebago factory, they were told that their windows were starting to lose their seal.  Ken Nelson said that they had their coach pressurized from the inside to identify any leaks before they became a problem.  The cost was about $150.00.  Leaks can be treated with a sealer if found before they get to big.  If too much of the seal is lost, the window has to be replaced.

Tom Traharne advised using a gutter to protect the rear window.

Laurie Dukes saw a rainbow in the window of their 2007 coach and while she thought it looked pretty, she didn’t think it should be there.  The seal was broken and the entire window had to be replaced.  The coach is under warranty.  Laurie says if you see a small rainbow, don’t think it’s a gift from the leprechauns, and get it to a dealer.

Recent Trips

Bob and Laurie Dukes and Joie Hagemann joined Chuck and Sue Borcher in a trip to Minot, North Dakota for the Norsk Hostfest.  They had cool temperatures but the food and entertainment was great.  Camping was $17.00 per night and shows for greats like Bill Cosby and Charley Pride were $39.00.  The head liners are just part of the Norsk Hostfest’s entertainment, with lower prices for other shows.   Chuck felt they did the trip on their own at a lost lower than the WIT trip.   If you are interested in this trip, let Chuck know as they may go again next year.

Ken and Sandie Nelson have just returned from a WIT trip to DC.  They have been on 12 WIT trips and they think they are a wonderful value.  If you are looking at a WIT trip and would like some first hand advise, contact Ken and Sandie and they will be pleased to share their experiences.

Dennis and Connie had a two night stay at the Rustic Barn Campground, where we camp as a club in August.  We found it to be an excellent campground.

Chuck Borcher has a couple mapping CDs free of charge for anyone who can use them.  If you are interested, contact Chuck.

Ray Smith had an original Fox Valley Winnies patch brought to him by Merle Betterman.  A motion was made and seconded with full approval to purchase the patch for $10.00 and keep it with our Fox Valley Winnies history book.

Dennis mentioned that Rand McNally has a book designed for truckers that gives the maximum height clearance on all roads.  It is called the Motor Carriers Atlas and it sells for $20.00 and is great if you have a large motorhome.

Connie thanked Ray and Carol Smith for their help over the past year.

Barb Bergstedt found the world’s cutest golf cup and as Jean Chilson is our very own “crack” golfer, she was the ideal recipient.

Don Chilson thanked Dennis and Connie for all the work that has been done this year for our club, and we thank him for his kind words. Dennis does all the work but I never turn down credit!

This concluded our meeting and a motion was made to adjourn.

Respectfully submitted,

Connie Relihan

Secretary
