Fox Valley Winnies

Outing Dates – 10-12 August 2007

Rock Island/Quad Cities

Wagonmasters – Don and Jean Chilson and Dennis and Connie Relihan

Meeting – Friday, August 10, 2007

Present: John and Diana Ahaus, Fred and Janice Bruneman, Don and Jean Chilson, Frank Catuara, Bob and Laurie Dukes, Bob and Edna Gardner, Vince and Ginny Innocenti, Al and Sandy Oswald, Ken and Shirley Poupa, Bill Powell and Sharon Cottrell, Dennis and Connie Relihan.

President Dennis Relihan called the meeting to order on Friday evening.

The minutes of our July meeting were approved and seconded.

The Treasurer’s Report was read by Dennis Relihan.  A motion was made and seconded to accept the report with any questions to be held until our annual meeting when Ken would be available to answer questions.

Dennis read a letter from the State thanking the Fox Valley Winnies for our participation in the June Rally.  Dennis asked for feedback on this rally. Comments were that the food was good, the weather was wet and there was no entertainment as the magic show that had been booked didn’t show up.

Dennis reminded everyone that our club is responsible for parking at the September Rally and will need a minimum of two coaches to be on site on Wednesday.  Dennis and Connie will be there and John and Diana said that they will try to be in on Wednesday to help with the parking.

Dennis had an email from Jim and Terri Hass saying that they hope to attend the lunch to celebrate the Fox Valley Winnies 25th Anniversary.  They will remain members of the club but plan to pull back from future activities.

Estel and Norma Schermerhorn have sold their coach.  They are planning to come to the luncheon for our 25th Anniversary.

Otto and Georgie Ryl are still trying to sell their coach.

The new name badges will be available at the September meeting.  They are slightly larger with a circle that says FVW 25 years.

Old Business:

None.

New Business:

Jean Chilson presented an idea for an opportunity for members to participate in a membership book. She gave out samples of a layout that would have two coaches per page or one coach per page.  The page includes a picture of the couple with their coach and a bio of their family and camping history.  Members at the meeting felt that two coaches per page were too small and opted for a full page per coach.  Jean felt the cost would be about $10.00 per book. The pages will be put into a binder type book so it will be easy to update with changes and the addition of new members who wish to participate.  Jean started taking pictures and collecting bios at the August meeting.  All members will be contacted to see if they want to be in the book. Jean will coordinate with them to get the information that she needs.  This undertaking represents a great deal of work and is a wonderful opportunity for our club members.  We want to thank Jean and Don for taking on this very substantial project.

Dennis asked if everyone had received the September “Friendship Outing” and Anniversary weekend invitation. Please refer to our campout schedule for details, however all members should have received the invitation with complete information for this campout.

Vince Innocenti reviewed the details of the October outing.

Dennis reminded everyone that our annual meeting will be at Barrington Motors on 3 November.  Bob Gardner asked if anyone had mentioned this to Barrington Motors and Dennis asked Don Chilson if he would call them to confirm the date.

Dennis thanked Don and Jean Chilson for making the arrangements for the great food that we enjoyed this weekend.

A motion to close the meeting was made seconded and passed.

About Our Quad Cities Outing

If you were not able to join us on this campout, I think we can all agree that the Quad Cities is a great place to visit.  The owners of the KOA campground made us feel very welcome.  They gave most of us their upgraded concreted pad sites and those who didn’t get concrete were treated to a water view.

On Friday evening we had our potluck dinner.  Jean did a spiral cut ham that was truly mouthwatering.  The food that everyone brought was interesting and delicious.  We had some very unique dishes and despite the heat we cleaned up! On Saturday we went to the John Deere Pavilion where we were met by a guide who shared with us the history of the ground breaking (no pun intended) innovation that has kept this company in the forefront of farm machinery.  Following our tour we went to the River House for a great (in taste and size) lunch.  On Saturday evening, we were off to Circa ’21 for dinner and the play “Don’t Dress For Dinner”.  The playhouse is housed in a restored movie house done in the grand style of the thirties.  The buffet was excellent and the cast superb.

For Sunday breakfast, Jean got the guys off the hook with a memorable casserole made with bread, cheese, sausage and eggs, cinnamon rolls and juice.  Frank brought his watermelon and Laurie Dukes got digging around in that big fridge of hers and found some banana bread.  Another great meal enjoyed with the Fox Valley Winnies.  Jean, in that heat, your breakfast was really a blessing.  Thank You.

Jean then led us in Sunday morning services.

Respectfully submitted,

Connie Relihan
