Fox Valley Winnies 15-20 July 2007 GNR-2007, where the Fox Valley Winnies had 12 of the 1,384 coaches attending the 2007 international rally.
Meeting – Thursday, July 19, 2007
Present: John and Diana Ahaus, Fred and Janice Bruneman, Bob and Laurie Dukes, Jim and Terri Hass, Chuck and Jean Hess, Jack and Pat Hollis, Brad and Sonja Kreiter, Larry and Sharon Lowe, Wally and Laurie Metzer, Ken and Sandie Nelson, Dennis and Connie Relihan, Ray and Carol Smith.
A special meeting was called by President Dennis Relihan on Thursday afternoon to discuss a pin denoting the Fox Valley Winnies 25th Anniversary.
Dennis presented two ideas. One was a separate circle pin noting the 25th Anniversary at a cost of $2.50 per pin and the other was a new name badge designed to reflect our 25 year status as a club; this at a cost of $8.00 per badge. The floor was opened to discussion. Carol Smith suggested the addition of a small 25 year medallion that would be attached to the current name badge. After continued discussion a motion was made by Laurie Dukes with a second by Bob Dukes to order new name badges. A new name badge at a cost to the club of $8.00 per badge was put to a vote and passed.
Dennis reminded everyone that our September 25th Anniversary campout is also our Friendship Weekend.
WIT will be sending the club a 25 year Anniversary patch for our flag.
Other Items that were discussed at this meeting: Dennis asked the membership if they felt the club should purchase a “Campfire in a Can”, at a cost of approximately $139.00, plus the cost of a tank. Comments indicated that it may be more trouble than it was worth. Ray and Fred questioned why we would want something else to haul around when there has been discussion of changing the Sunday breakfast to avoid having to bring the equipment. Diana brought up the problem of getting shared equipment to the next set of Wagonmasters, John felt that most places will allow fires. On the plus side, Larry said it would avoid having to haul firewood to each campout. It was decided to table it until the November meeting.
Sandie Nelson said that once again she would be active in the “Shoe Box Gift” project and anyone who desires may participate. The organization provides a “Shoe Box Gift” to impoverished children throughout the world. Suggested gifts include small toys, school supplies, hygiene items and other small items. Not to be included are used or damaged items, war-related items (toy guns, etc), food, liquids, medications, breakable items or aerosol products. Those who wish to participate should get a filled shoebox to Sandie as early as possible. Because of a busy travel schedule, Ken and Sandie may not be at a future campout but will be at the annual meeting. If you can get your “Shoe Box Gift” to them before that meeting, please do so. If not, bring it to the annual meeting. The organization requests a donation of $7.00 per box to help cover the shipping cost. Last year 25 boxes were sent out in the name of the Fox Valley Winnies. The size of our boxes was so generous that the shipping costs exceeded that amount. At an earlier meeting someone asked if the shipping costs had been covered by the club. Diana asked about this item on the financial report and Ken explained that this was strictly an in and out item and that any shipping cost over and above what had been collected was covered by Sandie and Ken. For which we thank them. If you are doing a box this year please continue to use $7.00 as the requested donation amount.
Carol Smith reported on another club activity that is made possible by our members, namely Carol, Diana and Jean, as they have been crocheting baby Afghans which are donated to the P.A.S.S. Pregnancy Center. Carol presented the center with 14 afghan baby blankets, 5 receiving blankets and a number of bibs. These beautiful hand made item are used to present each new mother with things that they need for their new baby. If you don’t qualify as someone who can help with the hand made items, store-purchased Afghans, bibs and receiving blankets will also be accepted.
We thank these members as these activities contribute to the FVW’s Chapter of Excellence Award.
The Fox Valley Winnies received the 2007 Chapter of Excellence Award at GNR and these pins were presented to members attending GNR. If you were not at GNR, you will receive your pin at a future campout.
Due to the problems that members have been having with receiving the club minutes in their E mail, Dennis said that he will publish future minutes on our website. www.illinoisindians.org find Fox Valley on the map, click on this and you will open our website home page. Here you will be directed to the minutes as well as other club news and activities. If you currently receive the minutes by mail, you will continue to receive them that way.
Dennis reminded everyone to send him ideas for our 2008 campouts. On this subject, Sonja suggested we all look at the May WIT book for some neat ideas on what other clubs are doing. Laurie Dukes suggested longer campouts. Judging from the show of hands as to who would like a longer stay, it looks like most people would be in favor of adding some nights.
Dennis asked for a motion to close the meeting, this was made by Fred and seconded by Sandie.
