Business:

The FVW’s have not received any information from Barrington Motors regarding a date for “Show and Tell” or whether they would like support from our club for the event. (Added note: Chuck stopped by Barrington Motors Tuesday. Bryan said he would call Chuck relative to the November meeting. Chuck will ask Bryan when he calls if he would like support from us for their open house.)

The FVW’s can receive a 10% discount on parts from Barrington Motors if mentioned at the point of purchase. (Added note: Barrington Motors offers this discount ot all WIT members.)

It was brought to the attention of the FVW’s that a large dealership from Michigan expects to open a dealership in Northern Illinois in the fall, possibly in the area of Huntley.

It is time to begin looking for new candidates for the slate of officers for the FVW.  We need volunteers to form the nominating committee.  Nominees will be presented for approval in September, voted upon in October, and installed in November.

The FVW are responsible for Parking for the Illinois Indians Rally next week.  Those helping should arrive on Wednesday and take note that there will be a fee of $15 for any extra night(s) (If you arrive Wednesday, you will owe for two nights). The traditional golf outing is planned for Thursday.

Please remember to bring products for the Food Pantry.  Paper towels, toilet tissue and napkins are suggested items.  All donations are greatly appreciated.

A $50 gift card from Wal-Mart, a hand-made rug donated by Sandie Nelson, and a GNR T-Shirt donated by Bill Menefee are the gifts from the FVW’s for the door prizes.  Two lawn chairs will be donated for the silent auction.  The expenditures for these items were approved at the last meeting.

Upcoming Outings:

  • July is GNR and in the past many of those attending have assembled at a campground in Clear Lake, Iowa which is very close to Forest City.  Jan and Fred Bruneman will organize the stay in Clear Lake for July 17th and asked that those attending GNR contact them (847-742-3753).   Jan has not heard from anyone to date.  The Campground is Oakwood RV Park, and their phone number is 641-357-4019. Make your own reservations, and let Jan know you will be there.

  • The Illinois Indians will be serving Hot Fudge Sundaes at the GNR Row party.

·        August 8-13 we will assemble at Grant River Corps of Engineers campground in Potosi, WI.   Wagonmasters are the Relihans, and Wenbergs.  John Ahaus’ reserved site is available as they are not able to attend but he has already reserved a site.

·        September 7-12 we will be in Beantown, Bailey’s Harbor, Door County, WI.  Wagon masters are Chuck and Jean Hess and Jim and Terry Benton.  (Bring your bikes as they have excellent trails in that area.)

·        September 24-26 is the Fall Rally in Crescent City. We have no specific responsibilities for this Rally.

·        October 1-4 we will be in Lafayette, Indiana at the “Feast of the Harvest Moon Festival”.  Don and Jean Chilson and Phil and Nancy Russell are the wagon masters.

·        The Annual Meeting will be held November 6 at Barrington Motors, beginning with lunch at noon.  New officers will be installed at this meeting.

There being no further business, the motion was made and carried to adjourn the meeting at 9:10 a.m.

While the weather was not as cooperative as we would have liked, everyone enjoyed the excellent effort and planning of our wagon masters.  We all enjoyed the 4:00 p.m. gatherings, and afterwards some of us traveled together to local restaurants.  We also had a bountiful potluck (we always have more than we can eat).   Some of us wandered off to the golf course during the day, some visited the Farmer’s Market in the town square on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, and a small group toured the local brewery prior to  group dining at Turner Hall.

The Fairgrounds were rather wet due to the over abundance of rain in the area but we were fortunate our wagon masters chose the south end of the camping area.  WIT Campers from Madison were on the northern side and some had to be pulled out by a heavy-duty wrecker when they were ready to leave on Sunday.

The Balloon Fest was fantastic as a number (14) of colorful balloons were aglow on Saturday evening.  Prior to that, about 5 balloons launched as the rain and wind had stopped and cooperated.  What a sight!  The fairgrounds were filled with vendors, crafts, food wagons, (including cream puffs), and antique cars.  Early Sunday morning, at 6:00 a.m., once again the balloons went aloft.  Chuck Borcher volunteered to help launch some of the balloons and shared with us what he learned about the sport!  All in all, it was a great outing and enjoyed by everyone.

Respectfully submitted,

Sonja Kreiter,

Secretary Pro Tem
